Flirting with you by the Chrysanthemum - Series
Over the span of five years the artist conducted private case studies with individuals on the subjects of phobia, intimacy, and sites of trauma. Through these documents she would follow up with questions pertaining to their answers, and photograph the areas at which she would sit to read (and respond to) their correspondences. These images were shot on film, processed, and placed into the files with each individual case study. A sort of topography illustrating the deepest fears and desires of people in communities which are scattered about like memories.

Objects reveal more to us than just their price tag. They reflect eras lost through the passage of time. The deterioration of their shape, smell, and texture is a portrait of our ancestors. Some of us place our own value on an object measured by these emotional standards —the memory of a lover; a time in our lives when we felt less inhibited by the world around us; a family member who has passed on -leaving behind the objects of their affection, their energy still radiating from within.
While working as a house-cleaner and an archivist for different people, places, and organizations, Ms Jelinski photographed these objects —listening to the stories from their owners. But these are not sacred objects from bourgeois collectors. They are instead fragments from the lives of the lower working class. Some hoarders, teachers, disabled housewives, and lesbian taxi drivers from Germany. Their stories etched into her mind, something she’ll never be able (nor would she want) to escape.
Over the years Ms Jelinski eventually inherited some of these objects, enabling an opportunity for further evaluation, and documentation.
